A mark from my mother
I have a small scar on my right hand. When I was a child, I was in the yard with my mother. My mother smoked while talking to the adults, and I stood up to play. I accidentally waved my hand and touched the cigarette butt in my mother's hand, which was scalded.
Sunday, at the church service, I accidentally looked my hand and found that the scar could not be found anymore. Looking carefully over and over again, I remember that it was in the middle of the back of my right hand, but I couldn't find it. Did it disappear with the passage of time? It has been nine years since my mother left. Will she be forgotten by the world? Or is it covered by my gradually loose aged skin, or maybe all kinds of randomly applied serums have played a role?
When my mother and father met and got married, she was still a high school student. Because she was wearing a uniform, she was picked by my father, who was also a student. Recently, in the family group, when we talked anbout elderly, my cousin told me that my parents also fell in love and dated before marriage. The two went to see a movie, but my grandma had to sit in the middle. My mother married to Tianjin all the way away from hometown because she heard that she could still go to college in the future. At the beginning of liberation(1949), she was assigned to be a teacher, because she couldn't control the students. When other classes were in class, her students went to the playground to play. Then she went to teach the workers' night school literacy class. My family also has a group photo of the workers' night school. I still remember that when I went out with my mother when I was a child, I met the students of the workers' night school and they respectfully called my mother: Mrs Li. Later, my mother went to the factory work as a statistician. She has always been a worker, and she also worked in three shifts. Maybe that's when smoking began.
There is a traditional festival in Mexico called the Day of the Dead. According to the ancient Indians, the deceased will enter the infinite cycle of the universe. Death is not the end of life, and the deceased still lives in the spirit and memory of the group. During the Day of the Dead, the deceased will be resurrected from the underground world and reunited with their relatives on earth. But when there is no one in the world who remembers you and no one worships your photos, you will completely disappear and you will never see your relatives again. CoCo, the 2018 Academy Award for Best Animation, tells such a story.
Anyway, the scar that my mother left on me finally disappeared (lost).
Each of us will eventually be forgotten by the world, leaving no trace, as if we have never been here.
